Spend an enchanting afternoon and evening of oral history presentations reliving the prominence of the Wai Wera Hotel from 1906-48. Experience the stories and drama of the people who operated and stayed at the hotel.
Start with a view of the lobby and stairs leading to the second floor rooms, which were closed to the public in the late 1940s and not reopened for over 60 years.
Enjoy appetizers and drinks from the 20s, dinner created from 30s recipes, and dessert from the forties — assuming you have the proper “speak-easy” code.
End the evening dancing under the stars with music from the decades of the Wai Wera Hotel. Dress in period attire and come mingle with the legends.
At the junction of Highway 120 and Highway 6 in beautiful Mono County, you'll find Benton Station. Just down the road is the Old House and Inn at Benton Hot Springs, where rustic elegance in a tranquil atmoshpere awaits you. Come watch the stars, hear the nature, soak in our soothing waters and explore the historic mining town. The hot springs at Benton are perhaps the purest hot springs in the world. Natural mineral water rises to the earth's surface at 140º. Come relax and rejuvenate, again and again in these soothing hot tubs.
Accommodations feature seven rooms at the Inn, which is housed in a 1940s historic building, two private historic houses with private hot tubs, and 10 private tub sites for day and overnight use.
If you value western history, hot springs, remote settings with uncompromised dark skies, we invite you to visit our family owned and operated ranch of more than 90 years. We are committed to making your stay unforgettable.
The Inn is housed in a 1940s block building constructed with local pumice materials. It was built to replace an old hotel where 10 small rooms shared one bath. The Inn was renovated in 1998, however the original structure integrity was retained. Therefore, all rooms except the Marquessa Suite (Room 7) share a bath. Two additional unique bathrooms with showers are available in a separate, adjacent building.
All rooms have refrigerators, ceiling fans, fluffy robes, satellite TV, A/C in summer and floor radiant heat in the winter. Free WiFi service is available. Propane barbecues along with tables and chairs are located on a covered patio. Guests occupying one of the seven rooms at the Inn share three private outdoor soaking tubs, which are always open. A hearty breakfast is served to Inn guests. Massage services are available upon request. Cellular telephone service is generally not available, but can be accessed nearby. The Inn telephone is available for registered guests on a limited basis.
